Horyuji Temple ~The world’s Oldest Surviving Wooden Structures~

Overview

Horyuji temple was established firstly in 607 and after the fire was reconstructed in 709

in the suburbs of Nara City.

This temple was designated as Japan’s first World Heritage by UNESCO in 1993.

Together with buildings, the temple contains nearly 190 national Treasures or Important Cultural Assets.

You feel wonder how they could make such splendid things in ancient times and have been preserved well up to today.

After Horyuji Temple, you will visit anther ancient temple, Toshodaiji which was established in 759 and Nara Palace Site Historical Park to learn about how people lived in 8th century in Japan.
